How we compare software

How Siftola reads prices on each company's pricing page and works out what your team pays. No company can pay to be included or to change what we show.

Published Updated

Siftola compares the prices of 10 kinds of software for small teams. We do not rank software. Our tables list products from A to Z.

How we read prices

We read every price on the company’s own pricing page and show the date we read it. Our browser is set to US English and a US time zone, because some pricing pages choose the currency from these settings. We read prices again every month.

Some pages show a price only after a click, such as a switch between monthly and yearly billing. If we have not read a price yet, the table says “Not read yet.” If the company does not show a price for a way of paying, the table says “Not given.”

Some prices are offers:

  • if an offer lasts a set time, such as 3 months, we show the regular price and describe the offer
  • if the page does not show the regular price, we show the offer price and say so
  • if a price is marked down with no end date, we show that price and say so
  • if new customers get a lower price with no end date, we show that price and say so

How our tables work

Each table shows a product’s cheapest paid plan that lists the features you pick, with its monthly and yearly prices. It also says whether the product’s free plan lists them. If a plan is sold only for one payment, the table says “paid once.” Offers and terms, such as a lower price for the first few months or a way to pay just once, are listed under the table.

Each product has its own page with the plans and prices we read.

How our price checks work

A price check uses each product’s cheapest plan that lists everything you need and allows your team. It shows what your team pays each month, from the cheapest product to the most expensive. A product with no price for the way you want to pay comes after the rest, and its card says so.

To work this out, we use what the pricing page says about people. That can be the most people a plan allows, the fewest you must pay for, or the price of each extra person. If the page does not say what a plan costs for your team, we still show the plan and say why. We leave it out of the range of prices at the top of the results.

Which software we include

We include software that:

  • is sold to US customers, with prices in US dollars on its website
  • lets a team start a plan or a free trial without a sales call
  • does the main job of its kind of software

If we rank software

If we test or rank software in the future, we will test every product the same way and publish the rules for the order here first. A person will review every ranking before we publish it.

Reporting mistakes

To report a mistake, write to us from our contact page. Our corrections policy says what happens next.

Changes to this method

  • : We added price checks for 8 more kinds of software, and removed the parts on testing and ranking.
  • : We now compare the prices of 10 kinds of software, and say how our price tables work.
