Siftola sets no cookies and runs no analytics or tracking scripts. The personal data it handles is the technical data that comes with every page request, and any email you send us.

Siftola is published by Jonathan Greenfield, who is responsible for the personal data described here (its “controller” in data protection law).

Visiting the site
Every request your browser sends carries technical data, including your IP address and the page it asks for. Cloudflare, which hosts Siftola, uses it to deliver pages and block attacks. If it suspects an attack, it may show a security check and store a cookie recording that you passed. Its dashboard shows us traffic totals, and details such as IP addresses for a sample of requests, for up to 31 days. We use them only to keep the site working and secure, and we don’t try to identify visitors.
No advertisers collect data on Siftola. Cloudflare uses request data such as IP addresses across the many sites it serves to protect its network. We don’t track you across websites, so a Do Not Track signal changes nothing here.
When you write to us
Email to hello@siftola.com passes through Cloudflare’s Email Routing to our inbox at Google. Cloudflare doesn’t store the message; its logs keep the sender, recipient and subject for 31 days.
We use your email to reply and, if you report a mistake, to correct the page. We never add you to a mailing list. We delete emails two years after the last message, unless a complaint or legal claim about them is still open.
Our legal basis
We rely on legitimate interests (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(f)): keeping the site working and secure, and answering what people send us. We use only the data these need, in ways readers would expect, and we have judged that your interests don’t override them. No law or contract requires you to give us personal data, but your browser must send its IP address to receive pages, and we need your email address to reply. We make no significant decisions about you by automated means.
Who else handles it
Cloudflare, Inc. hosts the site and forwards email, mostly on our instructions. For some purposes, such as protecting its own network, it decides how to use the data itself, under Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Google LLC provides the inbox where your email is stored. Google handles it under its own privacy policy.
We don’t sell personal data or use it for advertising, and we pass it to no one else unless the law requires it.
Transfers outside the UK
Cloudflare and Google are US companies and may process your data in the US and other countries. Cloudflare relies on its certification under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK Extension, which UK law treats as adequate, with standard contractual clauses as a fallback. Google describes its safeguards, including standard contractual clauses, on its data transfer frameworks page. Ask us for more detail.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it or restrict how we use it. Write to hello@siftola.com or to the postal address above. It’s free. We reply within one month of your request, or of receiving anything we need to confirm who you are. A complex request can take up to two more months, and we will tell you why.
Your right to object
Because we rely on legitimate interests, you can object at any time to our use of your personal data. Email hello@siftola.com and we will stop, unless we have compelling legitimate grounds that override your interests and rights, or we need the data for a legal claim.
How to complain
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your personal data, you can complain to us by email or by post, using the details above. We will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and tell you the outcome without undue delay.
You can also complain to the UK regulator, the Information Commission, known as the ICO, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113.
Changes to this notice
When our handling of personal data changes, we update this notice and show the date of the change at the top of the page. If a change affects data we already hold, we email the people concerned first.
